Personal Statement Writing Instructions – Personal Statement VS Academic Essays

Importance of Personal Statement for Turkey Scholarship

Most of us want to win scholarships to help us save money, and writing a good scholarship personal statement will help you do that. Personal statements are an important component of scholarship applications. Unfortunately, creating a personal statement isn’t always as simple as it appears.

Writing a compelling and distinctive personal statement can help you stand out among the hundreds of other applicants who have the same credentials. All it takes is a little bit of time to plan the essay in advance, and a critical eye for revisions. It is your introduction to the scholarship committee in which you’ve to mention yourself and your academic achievements.

Difference between Personal Statement and Scholarship Statement

There is a lot of confusion about the differences between personal statements and scholarship essays. They are almost the same thing but the only difference is that in your scholarship essay you’re given a prompt and you’ve to write according to what you’ve been asked but in a personal statement you’ve to mention all your experiences and motivations that helped you reach where you’re today.

Writing a Killer Personal Statement

A personal statement should include information on who you are, where you came from, and what your objectives, goals, and aspirations are, among other things. It should highlight your strengths and demonstrate to scholarship committees why you are the right candidate. Make them believe in themselves by using this personal statement as a weapon. It’s better if you start by brainstorming your ideas, tell the committee about your shortcomings in life and how you push through them.

Following are some important points to keep in mind while penning down a personal statement:

  • Brainstorm your ideas once and for all. Follow your heart and don’t allow your imagination to run away with you. Pay attention to your instincts and write what you feel
  • You won’t be able to tell them everything. Have a few basic ideas in mind, and leave the rest of your story to them to discover through your résumé, interview, letters of recommendation, and other parts of your application.
  • Start by telling your personal history
  • Then talk about your high school years along with your education
  • Talk about your family history, if you lost someone. Mention your hard times
  • Pen down the reasons why you want to study in Turkey
  • The very first paragraph is crucial. It establishes the tone and direction of the article as well as provides quick personal views. Give the committee an idea of how this opportunity will affect you in the long run, and how your personal statement and suggested program of study are related.
  • Promote yourself in a specific way talk about your interests, awards, and talents in a way that makes you stand out from the rest of the applicants.
  • The conclusion should not only bring the essay together, but it should also look ahead and show how the issues explored throughout the essay will continue to develop.
  • Be sure to mention if your family is experiencing financial difficulties. If you come from a low-income household, live in a low-income neighborhood, or if your parents are unemployed. All these reasons are crucial to mention because they explain why you need the scholarship.
  • Other potential obstacles include the death of a parent, a physical or mental disability you’ve had to learn to deal with your whole life or a risky, terrifying, or distressing life event you’ve experienced in the past. Be as open and honest as possible while describing what happened. Then be as open and descriptive as possible about how you overcame it
  • From an academic point of view, you can mention if you have an exceptional athletic talent or ability If you have done any hours of community service If you served your country in the military
  • Mention your outstanding ACT/SAT scores
  • Cite your schedule that demonstrates a remarkable balance of grades, sports, community service, and other activities.
  • Conclude with a statement that leaves the reader astounded. You can talk about your future goals, how you see yourself in 10 years, and explain how this scholarship is important for you to achieve those goals. Be concise and keep it around 1000 words or a page long.
